THE MENU IS COMING SOON – WE ARE CURRENTLY PUTTING THE FINISHING TOUCHES TO IT
Marchesi di Grésy is one of the most distinguished names in Piedmontese winemaking. The di Grésy family has owned its estates since 1797, although wines under the family’s own name were not produced until 1973, when Alberto di Grésy decided to realise the full potential of the vineyards and began bottling his own wines.
The vineyards lie across the hills of the Langhe and Monferrato, areas widely regarded as the heartland of Piedmont’s finest wines. The winery comprises four estates: Martinenga in the heart of Barbaresco, Monte Aribaldo in Treiso in the province of Cuneo, and La Serra and Monte Colombo in Cassine in the province of Alessandria. All grapes are brought to the central winery at Martinenga, where they are transformed into wines that express the distinctive character of their terroir while showing the utmost respect for tradition and nature.
The Martinenga estate occupies a unique position in Piedmontese winemaking. It is the largest single-owner vineyard – a true monopole – in the entire Barbaresco appellation. Owned by the di Grésy family for more than two centuries, it has earned a reputation for producing exceptional cru wines.
The vineyard is planted with the traditional Nebbiolo varieties Lampia, Rosé and Michet, whose harmonious combination produces wines of remarkable finesse and elegance, characteristic of this part of Italy. Its southern exposure, blue marl soils and elevation of between 250 and 280 metres provide ideal conditions for the grapes to reach full ripeness, even in more challenging vintages.
The family winery remains firmly rooted in tradition while embracing modern approaches. Since 2013, Alberto’s children, Alessandro and Ludovica, have also been involved in running the estate, continuing the family legacy.
A key figure at the winery is Jeffrey Chilcott, whose meticulous approach in the cellar plays an important role in shaping the character and quality of the wines. Marchesi di Grésy works exclusively with grapes grown on its own 45 hectares of vineyards and places a strong emphasis on sustainable viticulture. Its aim is to protect the local landscape, promote biodiversity and minimise the environmental footprint of its winemaking.
The philosophy of Marchesi di Grésy brings together tradition, terroir and progress, resulting in wines that are a true expression of their origins and of the family’s enduring passion for winemaking.

We met at the SUMMA Wine Tasting in Alto Adige in April 2026.
